Why do Doctors write articles?

I never suspected anything wrong about the articles published in the media till recently. Infact, its' the best thing any Doctor can do for the public to educate them. It will be easy for the people to get to know about the illness and more importantly about its reasons and symptoms in advance so that they can avoid it.

I am a regular in hospitals now a days. In fact, I may be visiting hospitals more often than its emplyees. One such day, while I was with a Doctor i overheard their conversation. Some one from the hospital management called up the Doctor to check up the status on the article which they suppose to do. Are they doing it only to educate the public? I think it has too many dimensions. One obviously to create awareness. Another reason, it will give some publicity to the Doctor who wrote the article. This will also help the hospital, which he or she is attached with. In the recent past, we would have noticed lot of articles in media about the latest technologies/instruments and what help it can do or in what way its better than the old technologies/instruments. These article will also publish which hospital these instruments / technologies are available. This in turn an advertisement for the hospitals. I may be wrong, but I cant be blamed as I am sure all of us has realised their greediness. One best example of their greediness is the latest news from Insurance Companies that they are considering to stop the cashless facilities due to excessive billing by the hospitals.

I am not saying all hospitals and Doctors who writing in media will have wrong intentions, but there may be a possibility. Why not? Espesially when India is eyeing the health care industry with the same expectation like what IT industry has done done to it.
